Lexus ES350 versus the perception that it's a fancy Toyota Camry.

Year: 2007
Make: Lexus
Model: ES 350
Specifications of note: The 350 denotes an upgrade from the previous model. A 3.5 liter V6 provides a reasonable power plant in what always appeared to be more of a family sedan.
Performance: a 0 to 60 in 6.8. Not bad for a luxury sedan.
Competition: Mercedes E Class. The E in the naming convention is directed squarely at Mercedes. Remember Lexus is about Toyota competing in the Luxury car category. Sites and reviews the mention Volkswagens or Nissans are either missing the point or misleading the reader. Lexus cars are loaded with amenities that are not found below the luxury level, that’s where Toyota competes. If you consider a Lexus, Lexus New York dealers see your alternative as a BMW, a Mercedes, or maybe an Audi. If that’s not the case you’re barking up the wrong tree. Since there is no BMW model that really fits in this category, Mercedes represents the true competition for these buyers.
Good: Toyota reliability on steroids! Lexus takes the best of the Toyota Production System and amplifies it with the latest technologies. As a result Lexus New York dealers are always happy to see the J.D. Power rankings come out because Lexus cars and SUVs are always on top.
Bad: The ES350 draws comparisons to the Toyota Camry.
Tank size: 18.5 Gallons. That’s about the average size tank for a mid-size sedan.
Wallet damage: The Lexus ES350 like all Lexus models call for premium unleaded meaning you can easily expect around $55 to $60 when you have to fill her up with gas at around $3 per gallon. Luckily the mileage is not that bad.
Mileage: 19 in New York City/ 27 on New York Highways
Within driving range: Based on the mileage, you definitely benefit from taking baby from the traffic of New York City out into the country via the New York highways and byways. Highway mileage estimates show nearly a 50% increase when you go from city to highway. At 19 miles per gallon we have a 360 degree radius of 351.5 miles. Now if you take the highway mileage of 27 miles per gallon you can drive a distance of 500 miles on a single tank. What does that translate to for customers of Lexus New York dealers? That’s easily a drive down to Virginia Beach with poor gas mileage, and as far as Fayetteville, North Carolina getting the average highway. On one tank of gas in the Lexus ES350 you have options west as far as Toledo, Ohio and even better is Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec, Canada for trips to the north.
Personality: Of all the Lexus cars on display at your New York Lexus dealer the ES350 has always been the somewhat conservative model. It’s definitely not a Toyota – meaning Camry or Avalon, but it’s also not as flashy as an IS, GS, or LS. This is a car for people who want more – more out of a car, and more car for their money.
Comments from other sites: There are many sites that you can find a review or data on the Lexus ES350. Listed below are just a few that we came across searching with Google.
Edmunds: No real comments. “Fuel Tank Capacity: 18.5 gal.; EPA Mileage Estimates: 19 mpg / 27 mpg; Range in Miles: 351.5 mi. / 499.5 mi.” Note that these are different than I quoted above. About Lexus overall they say: “Lexus has earned a well-deserved reputation for turning out utterly refined luxury vehicles. The hallmarks of this brand are a quiet, well-crafted cabin, a plush ride and commendable performance from powerful, nearly silent engines.”
Yahoo: “The 2008 ES 350 is a 4-door, 5-passenger luxury sedan, available in one trim only, the Sedan.”
FamilyCar: “The Lexus ES350 has received the L-Finesse styling treatment makeover which transformed a homely undistinguished sedan into the sleek, good looking car…” For some reason this site has a long write up, but different mileage quotes from those the Lexus New York dealer site shows. They quote 21/30 while Lexus dealers will quote 19/27. Both represent a difference of 9 miles per gallon.
